How does Natural Vision Improvement work?

Vision education works by helping people reduce habits of mental tension that are at the core of imperfect sight, and creating habits that support good vision. It works on the principal that the eyes, like the rest of the body, can get better and worse depending on how they are used; and that they have the power to improve and get healthier. As you learn ways of seeing which are more relaxed and energizing, you will also be releasing old patterns of tension that you may not have even known you had.

Is this about doing eye-exercises?

Vision training is not about moving your eyes in circles or doing eye gymnastics. The old idea of working hard or using a lot of effort and concentration doesn’t work with improving vision. Techniques used in vision education are primarily about cultivating a relaxed state: while at the same time sharpening your mental and visual focus.

Can I wear my glasses while learning to see without them?

In order to have wiggle room for your eyes to improve, it’s best if you get glasses that are below your most recent prescription. Glasses that will bring your vision to 20-40 are ideal, so as you have improvement, you will start seeing 20-20 through them. If you are starting with a strong correction, you will need to get increasingly weaker lenses. Fortunately, there are websites to order glasses very inexpensively online, one of which is www.zennioptical.com. There are some optometrists who work with the system of progressively weaker lenses, and if you can find one, that would be ideal. As you learn to use your eyes in a more relaxed way, you will notice that it’s easier to wear your glasses less and less, always using safety as the determining factor.

What if I’ve already had Laser surgery?

A lot of people who’ve had laser surgery are either not satisfied, or find that their correction does not last. In either case, vision training can help. You will be learning the same skills which non-laser patients learn; which is always healthy and beneficial.

How long does it take?

Vision training is usually a gradual process. If you haven’t started wearing glasses, but simply suffer from occasional eyestrain and blurred vision, all you may need is a little bit of assistance to experience perfect vision again. For those who’ve worn corrective lenses for a while, developing good visual habits may take some time. Fortunately, it is a healthy process that has positive effects on your nervous system as well as your eyesight and you will start experiencing the benefits right away. A great thing to keep in mind is that good visual habits increase the circulation, relaxation and health of the eyes. People who have high degrees of errors of refraction are more likely to have secondary visual challenges as they get older, such as glaucoma, cataract, and macular degeneration. When you learn healthy habits of seeing, you are increasing the chance that your eyes remain healthier for the duration of your life.

How can I get started?

I’ve described four basic recommendations under the Vision Tips section. Read thru the tips, and find the one that sounds easiest and most pleasant to you. Try it out, and see if you don’t feel a reduction in eyestrain, dry eyes, headache or even an improvement in your vision for a period of time. Finding a good vision book to learn from is sufficient for some people, as long as you practice what you are learning. I enjoy books, yet found that I got more results from working with teachers. If you choose this route, look for a teacher who is in your area and who has an approach that appeals to you. You can also check out my classes/consultations page and see what services I offer, whether you are local to Southern California, or would like to work by phone. Also check out my books/links page, which lists some of my favorite books as well as links to some free downloadable online literature.
